Five year-old boy won the regional Photo and Drawing Contest “What is a good early childhood?”

Bangkok, 16 May 2012 – A five-year-old boy from Brunei Darussalam is the youngest winner in the Photo and Drawing Contest 2012 on the occasion of Global Action week. Md Irfan Bin Md Zulkifli, 5, is one of the winners in a Drawings category by under 12 years while the oldest winner is 56-year-old Chan Siok Gim from Malaysia in a Photos category by 19 years and above.

The contest was open to anyone living in the Asia-Pacific region. More than 900 entries have been received from 23 countries in five categories. The 15 winners of this Asia Pacific contest “What is a good early childhood?” organized by UNESCO Bangkok along with Asia-Pacific Regional Network for Early Childhood (ARNEC), Asia South Pacific Association for Basic and Adult Education (ASPBAE) and UNICEF East Asia and Pacific Regional Office were recently announced on the occasion of Global Action Week from 22-28 April 2012. 

This year’s Global Action Week ran  under the theme of “Early Childhood Care and Education” touching the most critical period in human development. It is when children’s brain develops the most rapidly and where strong socio-emotional support from caregivers, adequate nutrition, good health care and a safe and stimulating environment can help them achieve their fullest potential. 

The winners will receive an official certificate of recognition and will soon be featured on the organizers’ websites. All participants who have submitted their entries to the contest will have their images be part of the ”Big Picture” mosaic on early childhood from all over the world.
